Salt River Canyon is a dramatic gorge 2000 feet deep. It's in the Salt River Wilderness, east of Phoenix Arizona, sometimes called the Little Grand Canyon. Along with the country around Tucson, it is part of the Sonoran desert:  every square foot so full of exotic dry country plants it resembles the floor of an aquarium.
